KIPONNIEMEN LEIRIKESKUS

Challenges: The goal of the design was to minimize the building’s carbon footprint and maximize the use of renewable, emission-free construction materials and finishes. Additionally, a system construction method based on CLT (Cross-Laminated Timber) elements was chosen. The building is located on the scenic shore of Lake Vesankajärvi, where good views from all accommodation rooms and the central common area of the building had to be arranged. The architecture of the building aimed to highlight the aesthetics of timber construction.

Solutions: The building’s layout, structure, and spatial solutions are based on extensive modularity, aiming to leverage the typical advantages of system construction, such as industrial production of components, fast construction, precision, and cost-efficiency due to time savings. The use of wood in all structures is maximized. The finishes are ecological and breathable. The building includes ten 21.5-square-meter accommodation rooms and a communal area for 46 people. Each accommodation room has an individual ventilation and heating system.
