CHALLENGES: A beautiful park-like environment that required space for a summer theater. Seasonal use of the facilities and the risk of vandalism outside opening hours. Integrating theater spaces into a public park and the project’s tight budget.
SOLUTIONS: An open canopy structure that houses the performance stage and seating area, with a separate enclosed building for support spaces and storage. The canopy’s design mimics the surrounding forest and serves as a gathering place even when the theater is closed. It has been made open and inviting to the local community, which is why users willingly take care of the place’s cleanliness. The challenging glued laminated timber (glulam) structure was designed in collaboration with a structural engineer.
